Intro

If you've ever wondered "Like, what's the deal with being a Latina?" You've probably come to the right place.  There is a lot more to a person than race; what is race anyway? There is, after all, no gene for race.  But other than soul, that cosmic gift of energy that can neither created or destroyed, there's not much more to a person than their experiences.  This blog is for me, as a writer, a mother, a friend, a child of a nameless god, to have a place to share my experiences in life in this snapshot in time that we've been granted together.

I was born and raised in an exclusive, white, upper-class society with the customs, smells, and sounds of Colombia at home. I am the MoMA and I am Gabriel Garcia Marquez.  I am Chopin and I am Mercedes Sosa.

No two Latinas you ever meet will be the same.  Because of the predominance of certain religions, customs and foods depending on geography, we may have many things in common, yet we are as diverse as any other randomly chosen pair.

In this blog you will read about one person's experiences, but it may give you an insight into bits and pieces of the common experience of being a Latina in the United States.  And you may realize that those experiences are not so different from yours or your family.

There was a show that was promoted on American Television to introduce the non-Latino American population to the Latino experience in America.

They didn't show my experience.  In this blog I'll share my experiences with you while I try to sort out, philosophically, what exactly it is that my experiences have given me so that I can best use the rest of my days here amidst humanity.

If you're reading, I hope you'll let me know and share back.

  1. Hola Nilki!
I'm looking forward to what this blof will become, as I have a similar background - although I live in Sweden. Since we have no Latina culture in the way you have in the U.S., I am very thankful for all the Latina Blog communities popping up that lets me be part of a group - for once!

    Un abrazo //Chennifer
